The State of Northern Bahr el Ghazal in South Soudan is an area previously depopulated by the war and has experienced massive influxes of internally displaced people and people returning to their place of origin from North and South Soudan. This region has a limited resource infrastructure, lack of basic services, difficult metrological conditions, extended hunger periods and no means of subsistence for the households.

The prevalence rate of global acute malnutrition is estimated at 19% on a national level and 23.5% in the State of Bahr El Ghazal.

Diverse factors have come to light from the analysis into malnutrition, such as:

  • The level of education of the main person responsible for the child,
  • The profession of the mother,
  • Household practices when using water,
  • Behaviour towards washing hands.
