This study took place in Western Chad in the healthcare district of Abdi. The objective of the same is to provide sustainable solutions adapted to fighting against under nourishment.

This region has a prevalence rate of global acute malnutrition of 17.4% (SMART 2014) of which 4% is severe acute malnutrition, the highest in the Sahel region.

The following major risk factors have been identified:

  • Inappropriate breastfeeding and childhood feeding practices,
  • Inadequate therapeutic approach,
  • Limited access to healthcare in the Health Centers,
  • High prevalence of illness in children (diarrhea, ARI -Acute Respiratory Infection-, malaria),
  • Limited access to drinking water,
  • Overworking women,
  • Inadequate hygiene and sanitation practices,
  • Insufficient produce from agricultural exploits and market gardening.
